Established in 1988, PHD Engineering is an organisation of consulting mechanical engineers, specialising in customised problem solving. PHD was created with the aim of founding an 'enclave intelligentsia' for bringing together the industry’s highest-quality engineers. Dr Robert J Davey started 'on the tools' as an apprentice Fitter and Turner and progressed from a tradesman to the ultimate recognition of scholarship, intellect and expertise in earning a PhD in engineering. This academic excellence complements 20 years of experience as a Design Engineer with Australia’s premier industrial company Broken Hill Proprietary Co. Ltd. (BHP), 15 years of “hands on” plant maintenance experience and 5 years as principal of PHD. This experience base means Dr. Davey is uniquely qualified to provide practical design and analysis services across a wide range of engineering problems. Whilst the focus of Dr. Davey’s expertise is primarily in mechanical systems and equipment design, PHD Engineering has an eclectic group of Consulting Associates with expertise in Electrical Engineering, Stress Analysis and access to Physical and Chemical Metallurgical Analysis. PHD Engineering have evolved into a quality boutique engineering consultancy. Dr Davey is the Principal, and is a 'hands on' design engineer with nearly 40 years experience in engineering design and industrial plant maintenance. Together with PHD’s wide range of consulting associates, PHD provides a unique capacity in fundamental analysis of complex engineering problems. In addition to design and analysis, PHD Engineering has the capacity to provide full supply, installation and commissioning services for mechanical equipment. With the ability to tender for turnkey projects, PHD has a growing list of clients in Australia, USA, South America and Oceania. Our client list includes international engineering suppliers, mining and manufacturing companies in Australia, Chile, USA and New Zealand.
