Position: Principal Engineer
Mr Jones is a Senior Associate with PHD Engineering and is the Principal Engineer. He is a Mechanical Engineer with a working knowledge of electronics (an unusual but important capability in the integration of mechanical and electrical aspects of significant projects). Prior to becoming associated with PHD, Mr Jones was employed by BHP for over 20 years. His final position was Principal Mechanical Engineer with BHP Engineering. In this role he was responsible for project management of a range of major projects. Mr Jones has considerable experience in negotiation and administration of engineering contracts. He was, for example, BHP’s Senior Engineering Officer in the negotiation of the SMS supplied Coil Box in the Port Kembla Hot Strip Mill. In addition, Mr Jones has considerable experience in the commissioning of major engineering plant, having been responsible for significant sections of the Hot Strip Mill uprating, the Skin Pass Mill and the Coil Box – all of which are substantial, complex pieces of equipment. Mr Jones’ earlier experience included a period in maintenance and design in several areas of steel processing. He is recognised by his peers as an excellent innovative engineer.
