Background

Mr Ron Nevison is one of Australia′s most distinguished and broad based engineers. He began work in 1945 as an Apprentice Electrical Fitter and rose to the position of General Manager Engineering and Projects in BHP′s Corporate office in Melbourne in which role he oversaw the $2 billion dollars redevelopment of BHP′s Australian Steel Operations during the 1980s.

Mr Nevison left BHP in 1989 and since that time he has been in private consulting practice. In the past several years he has been a Principal Associate with PHD Engineering.

Accomplishments

Mr Nevison′s initial education and training was as an electrical engineer. During his time with BHP in the steel industry he quickly rose to the position of Chief Engineer at the Port Kembla Steel operations and subsequently to Manager Engineering at that plant. In the above roles Mr Nevison′s responsibilities encompassed the full canvass of engineering disciplines. It was during this time that Mr Nevison established an international reputation in the steel and heavy equipment engineering fraternity throughout the world as an outstanding engineer with an encyclopedic capacity across a wide range of engineering disciplines.

Mr Nevison's broad capabilities were recognised by BHP and he was promoted to the Melbourne based position of General Manager Planning and Development for BHP in early 1981, and subsequently (1985) to General Manager Engineering and Projects. In these two roles he was instrumental in leading the refurbishment of BHP′s Australian Steel making capacity.

International Standing

Mr Nevison has traveled widely and is an international figure in steel and heavy equipment engineering. He was for a number of years BHP′s engineering representative on technical committees of the International Iron and Steel Institute.

Since leaving BHP, Mr Nevison has served on the Board of a number of engineering oriented companies and has consulted to a wide range of clients, including a significant piece of work with the NSW State Rail Authority.

Whilst with PHD, Mr Nevison has been extensively involved in consulting on mechanical and electrical aspects of heavy mining and processing equipment for our clients in Australia USA and South America. PHD is indeed privileged to have an engineer of Mr Nevison′s capacity and reputation associated with the company.
